ABOUT BEN

BAppSci, DipParaSci, GradDip ICP, GradDip Emerg Health,

GradCert Aeromed, PhD, FACPara, ASM

Dr. Ben Meadley is an experienced clinician-scientist whose work bridges human performance, physiology, clinical care, and operational readiness in critical occupations, with a strong focus on paramedics and emergency responders. With nearly three decades of frontline experience—including roles as a Intensive Care Flight Paramedic and his current role as Director of Paramedicine at Ambulance Victoria, Ben's research integrates clinical and  human performance science with real-world operational demands. He leads applied investigations into how stressors such as temperature, fatigue, workload, and shift work affect cognitive and performance in high-stakes environments like prehospital care and remote area rescue. His methodological expertise spans cardiovascular, respiratory and thermal physiology, biomarker analysis, prehospital critical care, and simulation-based performance evaluation, often working alongside health agencies and operational leaders to co-design practical, high-impact interventions that improve patient care and clinician wellbeing.

Dr. Meadley has co-authored nearly 50 journal articles, 30 conference abstracts, and more than 10 textbook chapters. He is the co-editor of the leading international textbook on critical care paramedicine, and his validated physical assessment standard for helicopter rescue paramedics has been adopted across Australasia and Europe. His work has been cited nearly 500 times, and he maintains an active role in paramedic practice and professional education as a podcast co-host and international speaker. Recognised for his contributions to both science and clinical practice, he holds adjunct academic appointments at Monash University and is a sought-after expert in clinical care and operational research that continues to shape the paramedicine landscape worldwide.
